Cut Down On Your Layers Using Set Matte in After Effects

Motion Science Shows How You Can Use Fewer Layers in After Effects by Using the Set Matte Effect

Mattes in the timeline can get a little messy and they certainly increase your layers count. Mattes for multiple layers? Now you’re talking my language! This is why I love using Track Matte as opposed to setting individual mattes on each layer; it’s so much more at-hand because we’re working with tracks already anyway.

The Set Matte effect was created just for that instance. The person behind Motion Science’s, Cameron Pierron shows how it can be a better solution than copy and pasting the whole thing with relative links so you only have to change attributes on one layer!
